# How the Day Zero guides are reviewed

> What has and has not been checked: sources, no named professional review yet, approximate numbers, and how to send corrections.

## Quick answer

The guides are written from public, established sources (Hesperian, WHO and Red Cross guidance, FAO handbooks and others). No named doctor, nurse, farmer or engineer has signed off any guide yet; numbers are approximate and corrections are welcome.

## How these guides are reviewed

People may act on these guides in an emergency. They deserve to know how far to trust them.

## Where the guides come from

They are written by Toswo from public, well-established sources: Hesperian's *Where There Is No Doctor*, the World Health Organization and Red Cross guidance on water, sanitation and first aid, FAO farming handbooks, the *Survivor Library* collection, army and civil defence manuals, Lewis Dartnell's *The Knowledge*, and standard textbooks.

## Status today

- **Not yet reviewed by a named professional.** No doctor, nurse, midwife, farmer, engineer or civil-defence specialist has signed off any guide. Each page says so.
- **Numbers are approximate** (water quantities, seed life, planting areas, power budgets). They are starting points, not guarantees.
- **Nothing has been tested in a real disaster.** The [weekend drill](/day-zero/drill) is how you test it in your own home.

## What we ask of readers

- Use qualified help first wherever it exists.
- If you are a doctor, nurse, midwife, farmer, engineer, teacher or emergency worker, **read a guide in your field and tell us what is wrong**. Corrections are published on the [corrections page](/corrections) with the date and the name of the reviewer, if they agree.
- If a local guide in your language or climate contradicts ours, trust the local one and tell us.

## What will change

When a professional reviews a page, the page will say who, when and what they changed. Until then, treat each page as a well-sourced draft for people who have nothing else.
