Continuity archive

If most of the world's systems and people are lost, what is written down decides how fast the rest can be rebuilt.

  1. 01Store

Keep three copies on two kinds of media, one far from home. Paper for the essentials.

  2. 02Order

Rebuild in this order: water, food, medicine, energy, tools, then technology.

  3. 03Teach

Every archive includes primers for teaching reading, arithmetic and science.

  4. 04Verify

Checksums and printed indexes so damaged copies can be found and repaired.

Rebuilding order

If most people and systems are lost, knowledge has to be rebuilt in the order it is needed:

  • Water and sanitation. Clean water prevents most early deaths.
  • Food. Seed saving, soil, crop rotation, food preservation without power.
  • Medicine. Hygiene, wound care, childbirth, antibiotics from first principles.
  • Energy and tools. Simple machines, metalwork, small-scale electricity.
  • Communication. Radio, printing, written records.
  • Technology. Chemistry, electronics and computing, in that order.

Every archive we publish follows this order and includes primers for teaching reading, arithmetic and science to people who will rebuild.
